    Aigars' Solo Show 'Portraits'.

    Opening reception: November 18th, 2018. 6PM.

    Aigars Liepiņš is a Latvian artist who moved to India in 2010.
    Trained in fine art and visual communications in the Art Academy of Latvia, he has worked in graphic design, art direction, photography and videography for over 25 years.
    Aigars finds his zen in the practice of fine art and painting, gardening and plants, but most of all in riding his beloved motorcycle.


    This exhibition is Aigars' first show where he includes paintings, a medium he has not touched in more than 15 years. Having been immersed thus far in the design profession, this return to fine art represents the opening up of his "art chakra", encouraged to a large extent as he acknowledges, by Maya.
    The use of acrylic paint as a medium in this series is also a first for him, as his medium of choice for many years was always oil paint.
    What started as a series of "paper napkin" doodles, rough drawings, and later, experimental sketches and studies, has grown and evolved into this mixed media show of portraits which express and capture Aigars' take on himself, on famous people and also his friends. The portraits are intuitive, sometimes sarcastic and tongue-in-cheek, and revealing, as viewed through the prism of the artist's unique and individual perspective.
